.CO Icons & Innovators: Kelly Hoey | GO.CO Blog

The .CO Icons & Innovators Series showcases interviews with the big thinkers, crazy dreamers, rule breakers and risk takers who spend their days breaking through boundaries, creating new possibilities, and transforming current realities to build the future online – on .CO, of course!

Meet Kelly Hoey of WIM.co

Founder of Women Innovate Mobile and ranked by Forbes as one of five “Women Changing the World”, Kelly Hoey is reinventing, disrupting and making a serious impact on the world around her. In addition to WIM, Kelly is also the founder of Hoey McManus, a boutique consultancy escalating women executives and leaders through the power of the media. Words can’t do this inspiring woman justice as her experience and never-ending list of activities and speaking engagements is truly incredible and leaves you in awe!

Who is Kelly Hoey?

A Canadian in New York City, a Twitter addict and a reformed lawyer. My career journey has been defined and created by my network.

What are you trying to do in your work?

I’m investing in the change I want to see in the world. In 2011, I co-founded Women Innovate Mobile, LLC with Deborah Jackson and Veronika Sonsev. WIM is the first mobile or mobile-first accelerator and mentorship-driven startup funding-program providing a portfolio of opportunities to invest in diverse founding teams. We founded WIM to encourage more women founders to join startup accelerators and see more women-run high-growth companies being funded.

What does innovation mean to you?

Innovation = Diversity. Looking at a problem in a new way or with a fresh set of eyes, which for me means looking beyond the status quo or a particular gender/age/race/socio-economic profile for solutions, ideas, perspectives, approaches and answers.

Why .CO?

Like WIM, .CO is about community, expanding and supporting networks of relationships and approaching the creation of business value in a new way. And WIM.co is a sexy URL.

What’s next for you?

WIM’s 2014 accelerator class, business travel to Omaha, London, Vegas, Brussels, Chattanooga and Mexico City – and being really thankful for the incredible experiences and people which continue to come my way since launching WIM.
